Educational Visits

Learning about farming

We offer a variety of educational visits aimed at primary school and pre school children.  We can focus lots of different topics depending on where you are up to within your curriculum. So far we have had visits from reception, year one and year three children from different local schools.

We don’t just want to provide these opportunities to schools, so if you are a member of a group or club then please feel free to contact us to discuss your ideas and requirements.

As we are a working farm, sessions are only available at certain times of the year to fit in with the farming calendar.  It is always best to book in plenty of time so please keep an eye on our website for sessions to be made available.

Outdoor Classroom

During the spring and summer terms our visits are whole farm tours, focusing on how the animals are cared for in all aspects and these sessions are aimed at Key stage one.  The children get involved in routine jobs and meet the animals  in close proximity.

This is a year one class who were looking at transport , so we included a look at how we use different types of transport on the farm.

They always amaze me with their questions and i love to answer them with the same honesty and enthusiasm with which they were asked.

These sessions can either be half days or whole days with the afternoon focusing on a picnic lunch (provided by the school) and fun and games.

Indoor Classroom

During the cooler months of Autumn we run our indoor sessions.  These  usually cover  the topic of ‘where our food comes from and how it is produced’ and are more aimed at key stage two children.

We focus on seasonality of our food and the impact of local produce on our climate change challenges.

These session are around 90 mins long and are run either morning or afternoon.  Although a full tour is often unavailable due to weather conditions, the children still get to meet some of our animals.

"Thanks Jayne and Mike for an amazing day! The children could not stop talking about it on the way back to school and we all had such a brilliant time! It was honestly one of the best trips I've been on whilst in Reception "
