Just had an amazing afternoon hosting a wonderful group of year 3 children from our local primary school.
They have been learning about their food as part of the curriculum and they asked if they could visit our farm. “Er of course you can!!” was my reply!!
What better way to educate our local community about the benefits of eating seasonal, local produce than to talk to the children!
We talked about how eating seasonal local produce can help to protect our environment, how we can eat food out of season if we store it when there is a glut (freeze, can, pickle) and the best question of the day lead to a chat about how we turn low grade agricultural land (grass) into protein (meat) so we use all our resources to feed the entire nation!!!
I love talking to the children, they ask amazing unfiltered questions and if you answer appropriately but honestly they soak it all up in wonder!
There was mud, laughter, fresh air, animals, tractors and connection today which was amazing!! Hopefully all the children enjoyed it too!!
And my nerves disappeared as soon as I heard them coming up the lane!
